Clutter Clearing and Spring from a Native American Point of View

As most of my readers know we have been planning and working on my 92-year-old mom moving in with us. We have been renovating, clutter clearing and preparing to begin a new way of living our family life. It is rather interesting how life flows and comes around the Sacred Hoop when we move from childhood to adulthood. I went from living with my  parents in my childhood to living with my mom in my adulthood. We have a different kind of relationship now as adults and beginning a new family life together as she joins my husband and I in our daily life.

We have all gone through clutter clearing of physical and non-physical items in our lives. We have purged unused furniture and collections. We have gone through the mental thoughts about our each of our lives will change and evolve. We have talked about our feelings and emotions about these upcoming changes. I have even given tobacco and will do a space clearing once mom is here to set the new template for our lives together.

In our Native American cultural belief, we talk about how we take care of our elders and our young. Well, in real life, that always doesn’t happen in Native families. We are looking forward to having my mom join us knowing that we will have her here with us in her last chapters of her physical life. We get to enjoy the stories as she retells them to us now that we are adults. As children, my brothers and I, weren’t always appreciative of the stories or made time to really “hear” her. Now we have the opportunity to spend this precious time with her.

Come share a discussion about this topic on my internet radio show, Sacred Hoop with Neshi, tonight, Wednesday March 28, at 9 pm EST, on Souls Journey Radio. We will share about clutter clearing, spring cleaning and new family beginnings.

Spring Equinox 2012 – Leap Year and New Beginnings

I have written many articles regarding the Equinoxes and Solstices, both here on Sacred Hoop and also Two Feathers (www.two-feathers.org) over the years. This year I noticed something very interesting and new. Since we are in 2012 and waiting for the Shift of the Ages, each Equinox and Solstice are special alignments that lead up to the end of the old cycle and begin the new, The Time of No Time according to the Mayans and other indigenous cultures around the world.

Equinoxes have equal amounts of day and night as Earth crosses the celestial equator. The word equinox means equal night in Latin. This equinox we are seeing the alignment of planets in the night sky, Jupiter and Venus. We also have the Equinox today, March 20 at 12:14 a.m. CST, this year because it is a leap year. Most of us are used to having the equinox fall on the 21st or 22nd.

We are at the North East crosswinds of the Native American Medicine Wheel. The crosswinds are rather uncomfortable on us (mind, body, emotions and spirit) as the crosswinds signal the change of a season and it is also the betwixt and between of Winter and Spring. We are beginning to feel the energies of spring (fertility and new beginnings).

As I was researched looking for something New to share with about this Spring Equinox, I found that in the Celtic traditions the Loughcrew- Sliabh na Caillighe cairn, The Hag Stone, is one of many sacred sites in Ireland that works with the energies of the Equinoxes. (Places like Newgrange work with the energies of the Solstice). Loughcrew cairn dates between 3500 – 3300 BC. I have been to Loughcrew and have been inside the cairn which is a burial cairn. At the sunrise of the Equinox, the light shines on the back stone of the cairn showing petroglyphs, drawings etched into the stone.

At this sacred site, an annual ceremony would be held where the oldest woman of the village or group would lead the people up the hill to the cairn. In the group I was a part of, we walked up to the cairn in this fashion. We walked in single file, following the oldest woman in our group, and walked at her speed quietly. Once at the cairn, there is a large stone called the Hag Stone where the oldest woman sits, drawing on the energies of the land and of the Great Mother. The oldest woman then shares her intuitive gifts from the Great Mother for each member of the group participants or village members.

Join me on Wednesday, March 21 at 9pm EST, on Sacred Hoop with Neshi internet radio show on Souls Journey Radio, as we continue this discussion of the Spring Equinox in 2012.

Here are some pictures of the Loughcrew/Sliabh na Caillighe cairn. Happy Spring Equinox!

Native American Medicine Wheel the Creator and Unity

We have shared about the different aspects of the Medicine Wheel over these past months. The one aspect of the Native American Medicine Wheel we have not discussed or shared about is the exact center of the Wheel. The Center is where the energy of the Creator resides. All the aspects of the Medicine Wheel, meaning the Medicines of the each of the directions as well as the Black Road and the Red Road, all meet in the Center.

The energies move inward and outward from the Center, much like breathing or the beat of your heart. In the very Center we find the duality or polarity of the mundane Earth plane does not exist as All energies are One. When we are consciously on our path and experiencing our Earth life we can feel the balance of the Center of the Wheel and we can go there for respite. A place to go to regroup and recharge when our lives seem to get chaotic and stress filled.

The Center of the Medicine Wheel is a great place to do meditations, to drum, or to be quiet. The feeling in the Medicine Wheel Center is a feeling we carry within us as well. That quiet place where all is One with the Creator….our heart, “as within, so without.”

This week on Sacred Hoop, Wednesday, March 14, at 9pm EST, Neshi will share about the Center of the Native American Medicine Wheel. The Center of the Wheel is where the Creator energy resides and this is where All the Medicine on the Medicine join to be in balance.

We invite to you to join us at Sacred Hoop on Souls Journey Radioand share in the divine presence of the Creator, March 14, 9pm EST.
